Horticulture at Heart
For over a century, horticulture has been central to the Royal Houweling Group. What began with chalk products to shield greenhouses from sunlight grew into a broad portfolio of shading agents, hygiene solutions, biostimulants, and natural crop protection. With its own calcium carbonate mine and factory in Romania, and operations across the Netherlands, Romania, Spain, and North America, Royal Houweling continues to innovate and expand. Since 2019, Houweling Americas has carried this legacy forward—now operating independently in North America with a dedicated sales team to serve growers across the continent.

Our History

Foundation
On December 30, 1925, Cor Houweling Sr. founded the company with a shading agent to protect greenhouse crops from sunlight and heat. Joined by his son Jan in the late 1960s, the business quickly grew across the Dutch market and relocated to Bergschenhoek.

Growth

Expansion
By 1993, Houweling expanded into personal protective equipment with the acquisition of a company in Apeldoorn—completing its focus on protecting product, plant, and person. That same year, a second Dutch location was opened, while shading products were already reaching growers worldwide.

International
In 2005, Houweling expanded with a Belgian packaging company, later moving headquarters to Bleiswijk in 2010 and completing major renovations with solar rooftops by 2019.
In 1980, Houweling officially expanded into packaging sales and recycling—a practice they had already pioneered by reusing containers for shading and cleaning products. As the company grew, son Cor Jr. joined the family business, and operations moved from Bergschenhoek to Bleiswijk and later Berkel en Rodenrijs.

Today, as we celebrate our 100th anniversary in 2025, the Houweling Group was appointed Royal status from the Netherlands Monarchy, becoming the Royal Houweling Group. Who now has grown into a global company with 275 employees across 30 countries—united by our manifesto: We Care. We Do. We Fulfill.
